Coughing is a process through which the human body tries to throw out some of the useless things from inside it. But sometimes this cough can also become fatal because coughing creates a lot of stress in the body which can be harmful for many organs. But the matter went too far with a person when he sneezed while having breakfast and there was such pressure on his body that the colon i.e. the large intestine came out from the healed incision in the stomach. Even though the doctors had said that his wound was healed.

In fact, this 63-year-old man was with his wife at a restaurant in Florida, USA. He started coughing and sneezing at the same time. Then he suddenly felt ‘wetness’, after which he felt severe pain. He lifted his shirt and saw that several inches of his colon was sticking out of the surgical wound. The man had recently undergone abdominal surgery, but the doctors told him that the incision had healed.

An ambulance was called and on arrival paramedics found a three-inch hole with a ‘large amount of intestine’ protruding out. Fortunately, there was very little bleeding and no major damage was done. He was rushed to hospital and surgeons managed to put his intestine back into his abdomen.

After six days in the hospital, he returned home and reportedly recovered without complications. The rare case was published in the American Journal of Medical Case Reports. The condition is believed to be dehiscence, in which a surgical wound reopens.

This happens in about three out of 100 people who have abdominal and pelvic surgery. It is slightly more common in older patients. The same morning his intestines came out, doctors had removed his stitches. He then decided to celebrate his recovery with his wife.
